DESCRIPTION:Joining two pieces of wood is undoubtedly one of the most basic woodworking procedures but how many times have you had to stop and decide….  Mortise and tenon? Dovetail? Box? Lap?  Etc?   Then once you decide on what type of joint you want there are questions about execution\, glue type\, long grain vs. short grain\, amount of glue and wood expansion to consider. \nWhile such questions can be daunting there are easy rules of thumb and “tricks” to guide your decisions.  Additionally\, there is some great equipment available today to assist every level of woodworker in becoming a better craftsman.  Come join us on February 3rd for a complete discussion about all the above issues as well as a practical demonstration on a variety of joints. Significant time will be spent on the proper use of “floating” tenon technology and how to execute those “tricky” challenges like precisely placing a mortise and tenon joint in the middle of a large board… those too far to reach with standard mortising equipment.

DESCRIPTION:This demo will show how to build and use a spline jig for use on your table saw fence. A spline jig is made for strengthening mitered corners on picture frames and small boxes. Just using glue on a miter joint may result in breaks along the seam as your wood expands and contracts. The spline is glued into the joint across the two adjacent boards to hold the corner together tightly. The spline jig can be custom sized to fit over any table saw fence.
